an ode to the silly pigeon who sat on my cactus.

uninvited you
left excrements on the floor
and yet when you sat on the cactus I brought from my grandma’s house I was worried for your wings and couldn’t be mad
and you taught me a lesson
that an enemy is an enemy until I remember they’re not
I cleaned your dung and washed the floors and you fly free again
and I’m glad you’re gone
