August sunset in Ujazdowski Park

It is hard to deny that we are

drawn to beauty

when one by one —

the evening park walkers —

we pause on the bridge above

the duck owned pond

hit by the pastel aura

to immerse our blue light tired pupils

to subject ourselves to nothing else

but simply being

to celebrate a modern victory

that we found a moment on this

August day to move beyond

and be moved within

all by nature’s palette of pinks

processes that form our reality

why — was the question pressing on my mind

why aren’t we indifferent?

it would be so much easier

if our desire for scientific perception

would align with our desire to smile

to the glory of the setting sun

that’s the tension where I dwell

the August sunset in Ujazdowski Park
